COMMANDER
WHO ARE THEY? A commander is simply someone in charge of the main ships of the fleet. Praxis, Kaitos, Demios and Eiros all have a command centre on them that is run by the elite members of the crew. Each ship has an undetermined number of commanders on board - a group for each section: fighters, navigators, medics and engineers. Then a key few to oversee the commander groups. These commanders then report to the government rep on their ship or they go to the building in Nova Terra to report their progress and whatever they plan to do next.
WHAT DO THEY DO? Apart from just drinking champaign in the ship's lounges and relaxing. They are responsible for training new navigator and fighter pairings on their ships. They also have to enforce the law, keep records of all the ship's outgoings and incomings and make sure everything is running smoothly. Commanders also choose who gets to spend their weekends off on Nova Terra and who has to stay on guard.
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? The easy way? Be born into a rich family and buy your way in. The harder way is to work your way up the ranks in another department until your next promotion is a commander. There is such a slim chance of this happening that people rarely go for that promotion - especially with fighters and navigators where one of them has to die for the other to get a different job. After an experience like that it's no surprising that very few fighters and navigators make it to commander positions.
WHAT LEVELS ARE THERE?
1 - In charge of stock incomings and outgoings and an apprentice to a Lvl 2 Commander. They are also least listened to by the rest of the crews. They report only to Lvl 2's.
2 - In charge of the groups: fighters, navigators, medics and engineers. They report only to Lvl 3's but they can take Lvl 1's on as apprentices (otherwise known as delegation of the crap jobs.)
3 - One step below Government Rep on the ship. They control the Lvl 1's and 2's and in turn everyone on the ship. They write the monthly reports and check in with the government once a week. They are usually respected by the rest of the crew, but find themselves to blame whenever things go wrong - even if it wasn't their fault.

FIGHTER
WHO ARE THEY? Fighters are one half of the teams made up to protect Nova Terra . They are paired up with a Navigator whom they are expected to spend the rest of their lives with because the government believes that living together, being in love, will make them a better team. Any mix of couples has come out of Fighter School. But it is illegal for two fighters to pair up - even if they do it in secret. The punishment is immediate expulsion - and from there it is a very rocky road.
WHAT DO THEY DO? Fighters simply do what it says on the tin. They fight. But it's a little more varied than that. They train in ship warfare - guns, canons etc - but they also train in hand-to-hand combat. They start off their five year training course on Nova Terra . They spend a year there, then they are assigned their navigator and spend the next four years fighting in space.
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? It's pretty simply actually, just sign up. You have to go through basic training and if you survive that you're able to start life as a fighter. But seeing as your mortality rate is significantly lower than any other group, there might not be too many of you on the training. There are almost one hundred percent more navigators than fighters. Sign-ups for fighters starts at 18 and stops at 25.
WHAT LEVELS ARE THERE?
1 - Basic training - your first year spent on Nova Terra going through manoeuvres and techniques. Mostly simulation based.
2 - Standard training - you have passed your first year and have been assigned your navigator and your ship. Still simulation based training.
3 - Intermediate training - you have spent a year with your navigator and can finally take your ship out into space.
4 - Advanced training - you have spent two years with your navigator and successfully completed over fifty missions.
5 - Elite training - you are married and live with your navigator and have successfully completed over five hundred missions.
MEDIC
WHO ARE THEY? Very simply, the medical teams on board all the fleets and back home on Nova Terra . They spend long hours in hospital bays and generally think the whole 'space colony' thing is taking more lives than creating them. But sadly they don't have any authority over anyone and tend to get pushed around a lot. Especially by bolshy fighters who wanna get patched up quick and put back into their ship.
WHAT DO THEY DO? Depending on the level of the medic depends on the amount they can do. But they basically fix people up and send them on their way.
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? Easy, you sign up to be a medic once you turn eighteen and from there you go through all the training to become whatever you decided. From general practitioners to surgeons. It's quite hard to become a medic half-way through your life, there isn't much opportunity for career changes. However fighters and navigators who have lost their partners tend to go into the medical field - as they have probably seen more blood than anyone else.
WHAT LEVELS ARE THERE?
1 - Basic - these are your general practitioners, nurses and assistants. They have had up to three years training and have shadowed a doctor or surgeon for at least six months.
2 - Intermediate - from there, after five years of training, they are fully fledged doctors and can travel from Nova Terra up to the fleets to administer first aid. They are also allowed to stay on the ships as doctors if they prefer that kind of life to staying on somewhat more solid ground.
3 - Elite - anything over and above seven years training. They are the best of the best and can do first aid wherever they like. Basically if you're in trouble, hope that you get one of these guys.
NAVIGATOR
WHO ARE THEY? Navigators are one half of the teams made up to protect Nova Terra . They are paired up with a Fighter whom they are expected to spend the rest of their lives with because the government believes that living together, being in love, will make them a better team. Any mix of couples has come out of Navigator and Fighter pairings. But it is illegal for two navigators to pair up - even if they do it in secret. The punishment is immediate expulsion - and it's unlikely you get another job after something like that.
WHAT DO THEY DO? As the name suggests, navigators navigate their fighters in the right direction. They fly the fighter ships and make sure the two of them come home in one piece. They train a lot harder than their fighters - though there is a bit of a dispute with the fighters on that matter. But more of their training is computer based rather than combat based. Though each navigator is trained to fight in the same way fighters are trained to navigate. Just incase.
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? The same way as a fighter. You sign up. You're put through a few basic tests to make sure your intelligence is high enough and then you begin your training. Sign-ups for navigators starts at 18 and stops at 25.

2 - Standard training - you have passed your first year and have been assigned your fighter and your ship. Still simulation based training.

ENGINEER
WHO ARE THEY? The engineers are the fixer-uppers. From taps to ship engines they are trained to do it all. Some say that these guys are the hardest workers and spend more time fixing things and tinkering with technology than any other group put together. It is likely that if someone in your family was an engineer, you will be too. It's an easy skill that pays well - though the engineers will tell you it's a lot harder than most people think.
WHAT DO THEY DO? They fix, they create, they test and they build. Depending on your department, you could be doing anything from fixing a kitchen sink to building the newest spec fleet ships.
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? Usually this job runs in the family, however the engineers take in any hard workers and anyone willing to try and invent something new to help the millions of people on Nova Terra .
WHAT DEPARTMENTS ARE THERE?
Civilian - these guys are the handy men and women, the people that come to your home or your shop to do the basic fixes. Most of this department are young, but it's also a good one to be in if you don't fancy going up onto any of the ships. They're also part of the teams that build the new designs.
Inventing - based in the government building these people are in charge of coming up with new designs for ships and buildings. They create the blue prints and then help with the build of the actual thing. Rather than just sitting back and watching it all go wrong.
Fleet - fleet engineers are up with the ships, fixing engine problems and making sure everything is running the way it's supposed to run.
Elite - lastly the elite engineers are the ones that have experienced all fields and have been put in charge of a group of them, organising them and making sure they do their job properly. This department involves a lot of paperwork.
CIVILIAN
WHO ARE THEY? Anyone who was born or created on Nova Terra or any other other territory
WHAT DO THEY DO? Anything and everything. They run the supermarket, play music or just bum around doing whatever they please - within the law of course!
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? Super easy - be born or created on Nova Terra or any other other territory!
GOVERNMENT
WHO ARE THEY? The people that make sure every citizen, fighter, navigator, medic, engineer and commander is within the law. They are firm but fair - though not everyone can really agree on it.
WHAT DO THEY DO? They create laws, protect Nova and generally avoid being in range of a gun of some kind. They work very much like the government on Alpha Terra, but there is only one political party, rather than several. Presidents still run against each other, but the citizens vote on who they like and who will look nicest on the holograph to other territories. But really everyone who runs for presidency will work in the top office at some stage of their career.
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? As with commanders it helps to be part of the elite of Nova, however it is possible to work your way through the ranks and end up as president - Nova has found those have been the best presidents but the rest of the government haven’t always had the same ideals as the poorer citizens.
WHAT LEVELS ARE THERE?
1 - Intern - working your way up? you have to start here. these are the tea makers and the lunch bringers and chief photocopiers. they are paid to be a general help and get treated the same way, but if they’re savvy the level 1’s can find out a lot more about the nova government than they really should.
2a - Council Representative - The lowest members of the government, they are rarely listened to but are allowed to put forward ideas for developments or laws or anything they like. Technically the head office should listen but unless the idea is exceptional, they rarely do. It’s best to just sit back and take notes and when your term ends hope that someone had seen something in you to take you into their department. Otherwise it’s another term on the bench.
2b - Personal Assistant - If you want to be president some day, you do not want this job! Personal Assistants are basically interns for the highest of government officials. But they can influence decisions and help the person they’re working for or they can cause scandals and rock Nova to it’s core. They have more power than they realise, but it’s rare for someone to get promoted after being a P.A.
4 - Department Of - Where is your calling? Education, Security, Health? Pick your department and work your way up until you become the head and find yourself conversing with the president! Department officers are also in charge of bring up Council Reps and giving them a seat in their department.
5 - Head Office - This includes the president, deputy, heads of departments and anyone else who has influence on Nova. They meet once a week with the fleet commanders and discuss everything to do with Nova.
SLAVES
WHO ARE THEY? Simply, slave are individuals who have been captured or born into slavery. While laws on Nova are strict, the ones concerning slavery are more lenient.
WHAT DO THEY DO? Once the individual has been bought by the traders, it is up to the owner to decide what the slave will do. Most become cleaners, or gardeners or domesticated in some way until their years of service are up. Others are sent to be fighters in underground rings, trained up and pitched against each other like gladiators in roman times. The rest are used for pleasure, lead by their owners they have no say in who or what they are forced to do.
HOW CAN YOU GET THIS POSITION? Anyone captured from an Alpha Terran attack ship are automatically put in the slave trade. You can be born a slave, though it is rare for citizens of Nova Terra to have children as slaves and they are often set free. You can also choose to be a slave if you have fallen on hard times and feel living as someone’s pet is a better life than the one you have. Most slaves come from other territories and move to Nova for a better chance at survival, it is almost unheard of that a Nova citizen would choose to be a slave.
Most slaves are owned by traders and once a month there is a slave market where citizens can buy who they want. Some slaves come with skills and others have to be taught even to read and write. The cost varies, but you’re likely to pay more than you want with the traders. It’s better to buy your slave from a friend or a business for a better deal.
It is also up to the owner how long the slave works - most pick around five years before their slave gets older and less attractive. After that the slave can be sold on or set free to become a citizen. But of course you can also keep your slave until they die - whichever comes first!
